2020 Forgeron Cellars Mourvèdre
From Heart of the Hill Vineyard located in the heart of Red Mountain; it is one of the smallest appellations in Washington State at just 4.04 acres. Our Mourvèdre came off the vines a bit earlier than usual as a means to preserve its full flavor and expressive characteristics. We love how large these berries are, and how much they bring the vineyard terroir right to us. We have always enjoyed what the Mourvèdre from this particular vineyard imparts to us, and this vintage held true. We hope you are able to enjoy this beautiful wine on a moonlit evening.
Tasting notes
Veiled aromatics show hints of game and spice (like buffalo carpaccio seared with cumin and cayenne). The medium-body holds flavors of semi-sweet chocolate chips and a significant number of exotic spices, gently revealing themselves. Tobacco, strawberry flambé and a touch of French vanilla lead the way to a satisfying, medium-length finish with moderately chewy tannins.
Other notes
The 2020 vintage started as most years do and harvest was anticipated to be a bit earlier than the previous year. Around July we saw temperatures begin to change, which caused ripening process to slow and result in later picking dates, and we ended up harvesting just a few days apart on most varietals from the previous year. We did experience smoke through the season, but with precautions taken at the winery (bucket ferments) were able to avoid its impact entirely.

Musky medicinal raspberry and peppery wild hers form a spicy bouquet as the 2020 Mourvèdre Heart of the Hill Vineyard opens in the glass. It's soft and round on the palate, with motivating acidity and a sweet mix of red and blue fruit. The cheeks are left puckered with tension throughout the finale as rosy florals slowly fad. This juicy Mourvèdre really aims to please and will provide a lot of satisfaction after only a short stay in the cellar.

Chocolate cherries, kirsch, praline and chocolate brownies on the nose. Full-bodied with firm and powdery tannins. Characterful, chocolatey finish. Drink now or hold.
