2020 Forgeron Cellars Estate Cabernet Franc
Our Estate Cabernet Franc vineyard, Equinox Ridge, grows in the foothills of the Blues in Walla Walla and we are lucky to be able to watch the growth and evolution of the wine from beginning to the finished wine in the bottle. This wine gives us the opportunity to control every part of the process and put our full might into the bottle. Labor of love is what got this wine to where it is today and it will be for years to come.
A deep purple hue leans into plump purple plum, a touch of leather, all spice and Old Spice, and hints of Kobe beef tartare and, after some aeration, displays dried oregano, San Marzano tomatoes, and Italian sausage with caraway seed. The palate boasts a distinctive brooding and finishes with roast espresso and cigar box notes. Expect this iconic wine from our Estate Equinox Ridge Vineyard to develop additional herbal depth, hints of Hatch chile, the resounding ping of roasted bell peppers, and lush dark fruit as it deepens, darkens, and matures.
The 2020 vintage started as most years do and harvest was anticipated to be a bit earlier than the previous year. Around July we saw temperatures begin to change, which caused ripening process to slow and result in later picking dates, and we ended up harvesting just a few days apart on most varietals from the previous year. We did experience smoke through the season, but with precautions taken at the winery (bucket ferments) were able to avoid its impact entirely.
